Dina Wakley 4th Post & Giveaway

Hi, yep I'm back, definitely getting these posts done, actually I had an evening typing some of them up so this is probably scheduled lol.  This is a full tutorial and of course using Dina Wakley products.  This journal page I tried using Frisk masking fluid straight on the paper, I should have gessoed before as when I rubbed it off it rubbed the paper off.  Dina's journal paper is different to other journals I have used and you obviously have to learn what you can and can't do, but what I can say is the layers that I did on this page it stood it's ground perfectly.  Don't forget if you comment on any of the 6 posts showcasing Dina's products then you will have a chance of winning in the giveaway (picture at the bottom).  Also at the bottom of the post is another Poppi the poodle picture :-).  There is a full product list at the end of the post, I have linked the products to That's Crafty which is a UK shop that I get all my Dina products from :-). All products are Dina's unless stated.

Here is the journal page, you wouldn't believe that at one stage
it look ruined! You will see all the mistakes in the
step by step :-)

This piece of paper was from cast off paint etc.
My next journal page shows adding to this paper and
making a fun journal page out of it.

Some close up pics

And now for the step by step ...................................

To start I used some Frisk Masking Fluid without gesso on the page first.

Next I decided to do some watered down acrylic paint lemon.

I added some water to the page first then added the watered down paint.

Next I did the same with Fuchsia watered down.

Then watered down turquoise.

Here the page is dry, I love how the colours seep into each other.

Next I added the paints lemon, fuchsia and turquoise not watered down,
in areas to brighten it up.

I still kept the areas that had seemed into each other to make new colours.

Next I brayered some white.

I used lemon to add on the mask Graphic Shapes.

I love stamping with masks, you don't get a perfect image each time but
that is what I love, it adds to the layers.

Still using the masks from Graphic Shapes I continued with fuchsia and turquoise.

And here is when it all went down hill.  I rubbed the masking fluid off and it ripped
the pages.

A closer look.

So in my upset mad state I completely covered it with gesso and a brayer.
Looking back maybe I could have just covered the worst areas and maybe
the ripped circles I could have used some pen work.
I never got back that beautiful page when I continued down this next path,
but I am happy at the end result and I will definitely do the watery technique again
without the masking fluid.

I tried doing the water down technique as I did earlier but it didn't look the same
over gesso.

So I covered it all with the paints lemon, fuchsia and turquoise mixing over
the colours myself so I got different colours.

Back with white and a brayer.

Then I changed my mind again and decided it was too dark so I used
the colours lemon, magenta and turquoise with white added.

I added some white with my fingers.

Next tangerine with white.

Now lime and white.

Now according to my notes I mixed lemon, magenta and lapis to make this colour.
But I will have another go and check I'm right lol.

I added the above colour with white.

I mixed lemon with a bit of tangerine and added it through the stencil Essentials.

Next tangerine with a bit of ruby through the stencil Bullseye.

Lime with a bit of emerald through the stencil Essentials.

Turquoise and ocean through the stencil Mini Favourites.

Magenta with a bit of fuchsia through the stencil Daisies.

Now white with bubble wrap.

Lids with black gresso.

Gilt with the other side of a lid.

Black gesso through drywall tape.

Dina's tools with blackberry to make little flowers.

Even though I had so many layers I wanted more so I made some stamps with
some foam on cardboard for small mark making

A closer look.

Now I got the sparkly pens out.

I added black gesso through the stencil I Want

Some pen work with Scribble sticks blackberry for shading.  I also added some
more wording with my own writing.  I hate that bit lol.

To me the page was done.  Then I sat there playing with the small bottles
of Dina's paint and made some dots and flowers.  If you look on the first pictures
you can see I added some of the flowers, but never took photos of doing so.

Here is what I am giving away :-)

Because of a back problem I work from home.  This is the only way I can get work
done, she has to be either on me or next to me lol.  So in love with my poodle Poppi.

Right that is it, just two more posts to go.  Of course in the future you will see more of her paints, stamps, stencils, tools, mediums and her amazing Journal as her products are truly awesome.

Happy Art :-)
